Album Cover: Final Draft
Above is the final draft version of the album cover for the Silent Sundays' album Sound of Silence. To create this image I used Adobe Photoshop CS5. Firstly we took images of band member Will Young and myself stood against a brick wall, whilst taking these shots we played around with different idea, such as, one character facing forward whilst the other faced backwards as well as a 'hear no evil, speak no evil' style cover but instead decided to stick with our original idea. Once I had placed the image into a Photoshop Document (PSD), I started to adjust the brightness, contrast and color levels in certain places on the image. I also adjusted the tones around the eyes and faces of us both to create more defined features in some places and less defined features in others.
Research into band image
Every artist or band has an image, be it a leather clad metal band or a scantly clad pop star, they are all individual and are an extension of the artist's persona. To assist with our choice of costumes for our cast I have decided to take a look at notable examples of costumes worn in music videos and other media of bands that fit our genre. Below are rock, pop punk and alternative groups that I have chosen to look at:

The Academy Is...The academy is are an emo pop-punk band from Chicago. Their image throughout band pictures and music videos alike is skinny jeans, jackets shirts and loose fitting t-shirts, The bands image is also maintained by the long hair and fringes. Though they aren't considered a pop band they do maintain a pop/boy band image keeping with popular trend and fashion.
Bring Me The Horizon are a Metalcore band from Sheffield, UK. The bands dress sense started out at very dark with black drain pipes and band t-shirts the norm, however with time and the support of many major alternative clothing labels Bring Me The Horizon has taken advantage of the new trend in indie clothing.

Sum 41Canadian punk-rock group Sum 41 encompass a punk/emo image with spikey hair and black skinny jeans as well as the use of baggier clothing in some of their appearances, over time the band has moved away from its grunge roots in terms of their clothing but they do maintain an element of that style in their image.
Breaking Benjamin are a rock band from Pennsylvania. The band carry a rock image in some of their media appearances, however they have progressed to sharper, more coordinated outfits which could be likened to many boy bands.
Interpretations of Genre Through Mise En Scene
In this task I will be analysing the effect that a videos mise en scene can have on how we interpret a song and a videos genre.

Each music video genre has its own subtle set of props, costume choices, locations and a wealth of other tiny features that may seem insignificant but can actually effect how an audience interprets the whole video or even song itself. An example I have chosen to use is from the rock genre is setting, setting is key in establishing the image of the band or singer in my opinion due to the fact that it gives the audience an idea of what kind of people/person the music is being produced by as well what sort of sound you can expect. In rock music industrial settings and equipment are not only used in music videos, they are used in pictures, actual gigs, on CD covers and even in the names of albums. When looking at an industrial environment the theme is quite a harsh one, hard, gritty, visceral and very unforgiving which already sets an undertone of what we can expect from the music. However reused mise en scene is not just limited to the rock genre or just locations, it can be noted in a lot of British pop groups, the constant use of popular fashionable clothes, a notable example being Olly Murs indie/hipster dress sense with very rustic, worn looking but clean clothes.
Music video genres are also massively effected by mise en scene in the sense that it has a strong effect on the way in which an audience will categorise the video. The four main music video genres are Performance, Image, Spectacle and Narrative. In a performance we would see the artist or band playing together with the shots primarily focused on them. When a video is labeled an image it means that it is primarily focused on sculpting an image for the artist. A spectacle often lacks a coherent story and may be satirical, unrealistic or just strange. A narrative is where the music video in centered around a story depicted over the song. Each of these different types of video all rely on mise en scene to categorise them.
